I have shared much about myself over the past few months. Some was intended to be fun and lighthearted, while other parts of the series were more business-related. Either way, I hope you’ve been enjoying this once-monthly series introducing myself to you.
In a world filled with information overload, my hope is that these posts slip through the cracks and give you a few, brief moments of easy reading.
If you missed the first four parts, you can find them here:
And without further ado, here’s part 5:
What are your favorite podcasts?
During the summer months, I don’t have much extra time to listen to podcasts. If I have free time in the summer, it’s going to be spent with my husband and kids.
However, during the school year, I spend a lot more time in the car. It’s then that I have more time to devote to listening to podcasts.
So, all that to say, my top three favorite podcasts at the moment are:
Entrepreneurs on Fire:
The host of this podcast, John Lee Dumas, truly knows how to communicate and create an outstanding platform from which his listeners can learn.
Screening his guests very carefully, JLD (as he calls himself) only allows people on his show who are very articulate, who have outstanding business advice, and who are successful entrepreneurs themselves. I have learned so much from his podcast over the past six months that I’ve been tuning in.
The Blogging Millionaire:
I pick and choose random episodes of this podcast to listen to. With so many episodes, I cannot listen to them all. Plus, not all of them apply to my current situation or company goals.
However, I have picked up some great insight regarding crafting SEO content (that actually works) from this particular podcast.
The Relational Leader Podcast:
While the first two podcasts are about being a business owner or copywriting, this third podcast is totally different. This one is a podcast hosted by my pastor, Randy Bezet.
On this podcast, Pastor Randy shares excellent leadership advice based on his own experiences and those of his many esteemed guests.
By the way, this isn’t just a stuffy, religious podcast either. Pastor Randy is an incredible storyteller and will have you laughing so hard that tears will be rolling down your cheeks by the end of some of the episodes.
Do you like to cook?
I absolutely LOVE cooking! Being in a kitchen stokes my creativity. While baking is fun and the outcome is delicious, it is cooking savory dishes that I really enjoy.
Experimenting with various vegetables, herbs, meats, and more to create the perfect meal brings me joy. I then love serving that meal to my family and friends. In fact, it is not often that people are invited over to our home, and we don’t have a full meal.
One issue I run into though is that I rarely stick exactly to a recipe, if I use one at all. I tend to improvise quite a bit.
If the dish turns out amazing, I then try to go back and guesstimate how much I put in of each ingredient. Oops!
It might not turn out exactly the same next time, but I try! This is particularly true when I’m making a soup. However, in my opinion, experimenting is one of the best parts about cooking.
Why do you love editing?
Being a rule follower in general, I like when the written word follows the rules as well. Regardless of some of the English language’s quirks and random rules, most of the time it follows pretty straightforward rules. I like that! Rules and organization are my friends.
However, that’s not really why I love editing and proofreading! So, what is the true reason? It is…I like to help people! And here’s how I view editing as helping:
Chopping up someone’s hard work, crossing out their little mistakes, and rewording their sentence structure…that sounds helpful, right?
To me, it does! I don’t view it as being critical of a person and their work. Honestly, I view it as helping someone take their writing to the next level.
When I can tweak copy just a little bit here and there, that piece of writing is transformed. No longer being hindered by grammatical distractions or confusing sentence structure, that piece of writing is now able to showcase its phenomenal content.
Do you know what that means? Now that piece of copy can convert, get readers, and display a professional, polished appearance! And who doesn’t want their writing to do that?
Now, that sounds helpful! Right?!
It’s Your Turn
I love hearing about what other people are reading or listening to in their spare time or as part of their job. Last month we discussed books. So, for this month, let’s talk podcasts!
What are your favorite podcasts? Or, even better…do you have a podcast of your own? Send me a message! I would love to check it out!
