Who Is Liz? – Part 1

Who Is Liz? – Part 1
February 28, 2021 by Liz Shirey

The Inspired Copy is the brainchild of Liz Shirey. So, who is Liz, and why do I care to learn more about her? Well, if you are going to trust someone to give you advice for your company or hire them to work on your projects, wouldn’t you want to know a little more about that person?

I would! And…I am that person you want to know more about—Liz Shirey. Before I trust someone with my work, money, or future dreams, I want to know more than just their name. And I assume that’s true for you too! So, for the next few months, I will be sharing a little more about myself on the first Tuesday of each month.

So, here we go! I’ll try not to embarrass myself too much with some of these answers!

Where did you grow up?

“In the cold tundra of…Indiana!” says this converted Southern girl! I grew up in the northeastern part of Indiana, full of rolling hills, gorgeous golf courses, and beautiful lakes. Don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of corn fields in Indiana as well; but my favorite part of my hometown was the water. The pine trees swaying in the breeze with small whitecaps rippling across the lake—it still brings a smile to my face thinking about it.

What are your favorite writing projects?

I love all types of writing. Okay, maybe not poetry…I never could figure out how to write a good haiku. However, the power of words has always enthralled me. I enjoy writing a great SEO blog post, full of research and emotional pulls or an expressive, personalized About Me page allowing me to tell my client’s story. However, one of my favorite writing projects has been writing and editing devotions for a church. Being able to encourage people through the use of God’s Word is such an uplifting feeling.

It also allowed me to use my unused Biblical Literature degree (which in hindsight was not a very marketable degree for someone not planning to go into full-time ministry).

What is your favorite sport?

Golf—without a doubt, golf! See the picture at the top of the blog post, that’s me! I also love baseball, football, and basketball—watching that is. My ability to play these sports…not so much! Just ask my P.E. teachers from junior high. Now golf, on the other hand, is a place of peace and happiness for me. Growing up, I spent countless hours on the driving range and golf course alone or with my dad, teammates, and friends. It was a place I could enjoy being with people or being by myself.

Even after playing golf for over twenty-five years, the golf course still never ceases to amaze me with its beauty and quietness.

In high school and college, we were not allowed to use golf carts; so, as I carried my heavy bag of clubs all over that course (and believe it, it was ALL over at times), I relaxed in God’s beautiful creation while playing a game I loved.

What is your favorite part about being a copywriter?

Words can be emotional, beautiful, instructive, and influential. I love to intertwine all those feelings and aspects together into forming the perfect piece of copy for my clients. Being a copywriter is more than just putting words on a page. It is taking my clients’ hopes and dreams for their future and forming it into a piece of copy that will help them grow. My desire is that my copywriting helps my clients see incredible results for their company!

Do you have a favorite quote?

I have a lot of favorites, but these are two quotes that had a big impact on me growing up, so much so that I wrote them in the back of my Bible back in high school.

Longing for the ideal while criticizing the real is evidence of immaturity. On the other hand, settling for the real without striving for the ideal is complacency. Maturity is living with the tension. –Rick Warren

Your gifts and determination may dictate your potential, but it is your character that will determine your legacy. –Andy Stanley

Tell Me More About You

I would love to get to know you more as well! Working on a writing project for someone requires both parties to know and understand a little bit about each other’s stories and what led them to the place they are at now. Send me a message and share a little about your own story! I would love to hear it!
