From Percolating to Brewed

From Percolating to Brewed
January 13, 2021 by Liz Shirey

Do you have an idea that has been percolating in the back of your mind but never completed the brewing process? Me too! I have had a dream job resting in the recesses of my brain for years, and I am happy to share that my dream job has finally finished brewing and has created my perfect steaming cup of coffee.

Throughout my teenage and college years, I was certain I wanted to be a writer. Because of this career aspiration, I double majored in English and Biblical Literature in college. In fact, I even went so far as to dream that I would one day write textbooks to teach children biblical Greek. However, as the first few years drifted by following my college graduation, my career plans had to be put on hold as my husband and I welcomed our two beautiful children. During this time, we bought and sold multiple houses due to job changes and moving across the country from Indiana to Maryland and then finally to Florida.

My life was centered around caring for our two young children. Finding time to quietly sit and write seemed like a very far-fetched dream at that point.

I mean, if I could barely find time to eat my dinner while it was still hot or remember to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer, I certainly wasn’t able to find time to let my creativity flow through my fingers onto a blank page.

So, while I still enjoyed reading and thinking creatively, I didn’t feel that pull to be a writer at this point in my life.

Once our children were attending school full-time, my free time increased immensely. That quietness and peace I was missing during the baby and toddler phase was now mine for the taking!

And with this quietness came a renewal of my love for words and my desire to write and edit once again.

From my rekindled desire for writing came various opportunities to use my gifts and skills with words: editing a daily devotional and working for a marketing company where I wrote blog posts for clients along with many other copywriting projects.

A huge opportunity has now arisen for me—I have created my own company: The Inspired Copy. Welcome and thank you for joining me on this new journey! I am excited to see where this takes me and all the new people that are about to walk into my life. If you have copywriting needs for you or your business, I would love to talk to you.
