May the Fourth Be with You! Part three of the “Who Is Liz?” series is brought to you by Lucas…Oops! This copywriter doesn’t want to infringe on any copyrights; so, let’s try this again!
If you haven’t guessed it yet, this month’s edition of my getting-to-know-me series is inspired by Star Wars. Let’s have some fun in this blog post! If you missed the first two parts of this series, you can find Part 1 here and Part 2 here!
So, let’s punch this post into hyperspace and start the interview!
Have you watched all of the Star Wars movies?
Yes, I have watched every Star Wars movie! My first experience with Star Wars was a movie marathon in middle school. I remember watching Episodes IV-VI over the course of weekend while on a sleepover at a friend’s house. That was a lot of Star Wars all at once for someone brand new to a galaxy far, far away. I do remember loving it and being confused all at the same time. Since then, I have seen all the other Star Wars movies and some of the Star Wars TV shows. I enjoy them all, and I’m happy to say that I’m no longer confused when I watch them.
Who is Your Favorite Star Wars Character?
That is a tough one! There are so many good characters, and they are good for so many different reasons. However, if I had to pick one favorite Star Wars character, it would have to be a “stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder,” who is none other than Han Solo. And I promise it’s not because he’s played by Harrison Ford (even though I know that’s why he’s a favorite with many of the ladies).
Han Solo is my favorite character because he’s funny, confident, and loyal. He is not perfect, but it’s this imperfection that makes him so relatable and likeable. Despite his flaws, he is extremely loyal to his friends and wants to help them.
“Yahoo! You’re all clear, kid!” –Han Solo
I mean, who could forget that scene? How could you not like Han Solo after he returned to help Luke and, in turn, helped destroy the Death Star?
That’s the kind of friend I want on my side! One who defends me and rushes to my side when it seems like my world is going off-kilter. This applies both to my personal life and to my life as a business owner. I am extremely grateful for the people God has placed in my life to speak into me with their wisdom, guidance, and love. I hope I am that friend to others as well.
Have You Ever Been to Galaxy’s Edge?
Being a Florida girl, Disney World is like my second home, and I really, really love Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios!
The rides are incredible—the amazing technology, the attention to detail, and the feeling like you are actually in a living, breathing Star Wars universe! However, it’s not just the rides that blow me away but the immersive environment that Disney has created! This is what sets Galaxy’s Edge far above other sections of the surrounding theme parks! Even the trash cans are themed to look like they are part of an actual Star Wars movie. The food, the gift shops, the walls, the bathrooms (crazy, right?), and more…
All of Disney’s cast members are amazing, but the ones in Galaxy’s Edge stay in character so well! They use wording that is unique to Star Wars and respond to guest queries with that unique lingo. If you haven’t been to Galaxy’s Edge yet, I highly recommend going!
Are you a Baby Yoda fan?
Of course! Who isn’t? My family and I watched Mandalorian season one and two, and we have been Baby Yoda fans from that first moment we saw him on screen. I refuse to call him by his real name though. Baby Yoda just seems to fit him and is so much cuter than his real name.
Why do you think the Stars Wars franchise has been so successful?
George Lucas and the team at Disney are master storytellers! Plain and simple! They do an excellent job of engrossing their audience in non-stop action that’s interwoven throughout the storyline. In addition, the characters they’ve created are extremely unique and memorable! The writers really know how to pull on our heartstrings with the narratives they’ve created in this franchise.
These narratives allow people to come together and enjoy the Star Wars universe in unique ways. For those of us who are not sci-fi fans, we can still get wrapped up in these incredible stories just like the biggest sci-fi fans do!
Looking at the overarching themes in the movies and shows, Star Wars gives us excellent examples of courage and standing up for what’s right. Struggling with the temptation to seize power at all costs is woven throughout the franchise. In contrast to this power struggle are incredible examples of hope and heroism. I think it’s this delicate balance that makes Star Wars so memorable and endearing to so many people.
Do you have any Star Wars merchandise in your home?
You better believe it! Honestly, almost every room in our home has something from the Star Wars universe in it. Our kitchen has a Baby Yoda mug, my closet has Star Wars shirts, our living room has a Lego Star Destroyer above our TV…I could go on and on. We have some pretty big Star Wars fans in my home!
We actually collect the unique popcorn buckets from Disney World and have them displayed on a few shelves in our home.
What is your favorite Star Wars Quote?
There are so many good quotes to choose from! Personally, I think the best quotes are still from the first two trilogies. My favorite quote is…
“Do or do not. There is no try.” –Yoda
This mentality forms my entire work ethic. I am a doer, and I don’t like to sit around and dream about the future without taking action. For me, if I think something needs done, I am not going to half-heartedly try. I am putting every ounce of my energy into attacking the issue.
That’s how I approached forming The Inspired Copy. From the moment that I knew it was time to create my company, I worked tirelessly to move it from conception to a full-blown, successful company. It was a new beginning for me—a beautiful one at that!
I also use Yoda’s approach when working for my clients. If I tell a client I am going to do something, I am not trying to create a successful piece of copy for them. I am doing it!
Maybe I should change my company slogan to: “Do or do not. There is no try.” Thank you for the great advice, Master Yoda!
Your Turn!
