7 Reasons Why Your Small Business Needs a Blog

7 Reasons Why Your Small Business Needs a Blog
April 17, 2021 by Liz Shirey

Everyone in the business world wants more traffic, more leads, and more clients. So, how do you achieve that? By blogging! Publishing consistent, insightful blog posts helps your company grow and adds value to your brand. Every small business needs a blog!

Even if you know this already, is something holding you back from starting a new blog or expanding your current one? Time? Skill? Money? These first two can be solved quite easily. If you are not confident in your ability to write blog posts or lack the time to do so, The Inspired Copy can help you with this.

The money aspect is understandably always a consideration for any business. However, what you invest into your blog has a great ROI because of the many benefits a blog brings to your company. In fact, blogging doesn’t have to break your budget. You can do it in a very economical yet impactful way. Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions about how this is possible.

Blogging is an investment, just like updating your company’s logo, installing a new POS system, or improving your curbside appearance are investments. All are important for company growth.

Here are seven reasons why your small business needs a blog:

1. Boost Your Search Engine Optimization

We’ll start with the most recognizable one. When people think about a business blog, SEO is usually what comes to mind. Why? Because of the results it yields! Employing SEO tactics with your blog will help boost your company’s ranking on search result pages. One of the best ways to do this is by writing blog posts focused on keywords that your clients are searching for. Search engines love fresh, relevant content! Blogging just happens to be one of the best and most inexpensive ways to rank higher with those search engines.

2. Increase Traffic to Your Site

If you boost your SEO ranking, what do you think will result? It’s probably pretty obvious! You will see increased traffic to your site! By appearing higher on the search results page, automatically you are more likely to get more visitors to your site.

Check out these stats:

  • Businesses who publish regular blog posts receive 55% more traffic than those who do not!
  • Businesses with blogs average 67% more monthly leads than ones who don’t blog.

Who wouldn’t want to increase their traffic and leads at these rates? Now are you ready to start blogging consistently?

3. Attract New Clients

With more traffic comes the ability to attract new clients. Those 67% more leads have the potential to be converted into 67% more clients. The more copy you publish, the more likely you are to grab those leads’ attention. One caveat here…your copy needs to be relevant and add value to the consumer in order to reap the rewards.

Just posting endless memes is not going to add the value you so desperately need! If you want to attract new clients, you must show them your value and why your content is worth reading.

So, by blogging, you can do the following:

Boost SEO –> Increase traffic –> Attract new clients –> ???

What do you think comes after attracting new clients? Yes, increased revenue! That sounds like a great plan for company growth to me!

4. Strengthen Relationships with Existing Clients

Blogging does so much more than just provide a great avenue to improve your search engine optimization and drive traffic to your site. It also helps you strengthen your relationships with your existing clients. When interacting with your clients, your blog content gives you another subject to discuss with them and hear their opinion on the topics. This can give you great insight into their buyer mindset or business decisions.

By providing your clients with content that they find relevant, you are also building an ongoing relationship with them by showing them that you are reliable and trustworthy. When you post consistently, this gives them the impression that your company is stable and will not abandon them.

5. Provide Your Clients with Valuable Insight

When you write a piece for your blog, you are able to provide your clients and future clients with valuable insight. Educating before selling demonstrates that you see their value as a person and want to see them succeed.

Thus, by giving your clients free insight into topics relevant to them, you are showing them that you care about them and not just your bottom line.

The entire premise of the blog piece shouldn’t be trying to sell your reader on a product. It should be giving your reader information that will improve their knowledge of a subject or broaden their understanding of your particular field in a way that will help them.

However, don’t miss this part:

Make sure every blog post contains a call to action!

You might feel salesy the first time you add a call to action (CTA) within your blog piece, but eventually you will figure out how to make it sound more natural. Without a call to action, you are just giving your client information without an avenue to act on said information. To incorporate a call to action within your blog post, you can add a link or button for your client to contact you, set up a consultation, or buy your product.

6. Demonstrate Your Expertise in Your Field

The valuable insight that you just gave your clients does something else as well. It demonstrates that you are an expert in your field. Regardless of the size of your business, blogging is a good way to establish yourself as an industry leader.

I assume all of us want to be considered experts in our fields. Because honestly, who do you typically hire when you need something done or need to buy a product? An expert!

By consistently publishing quality blog posts, you will become the “go-to” person within your industry, which will lead to higher conversion rates, more sales, and increased revenue.

7. Enhance Your Brand’s Identity

Your blog is another offshoot of your brand. It helps you enhance your brand’s identity by providing a place to reinforce your company’s values, vision, and standards. Your blog posts should fit into your brand’s communication plan and align with your target audience. When you do these things, you will take your branding to the next level.

In addition, your blog can be an outlet for you to express your brand’s personality and show a more personal side to your company that might not be apparent on the other pages of your site. This personal touch helps people to see you as more than just a corporate name and allows you to build community with your clients.

Invest in Yourself!

There has never been a better time than now to expand your company’s digital footprint. By starting or expanding your company’s blog, you are making a sound investment in yourself. And who do you trust more than yourself?

So, if you are ready to invest in your company and its future growth, send me a message! We can work together to create a blogging plan that is perfect for your company’s needs and its budget!
